2024, eh? What a year. It came at us like a curveball, didn’t it? For many, it felt like hitting rock bottom—a relentless stream of “what the hell is going on?!” moments. Economic chaos, political upheaval, and escalating wars tested even the strongest of us. But here’s the good news: rock bottom isn’t the end. It’s the foundation on which we can rebuild—a chance to rise, stronger and more resilient than before.
I’ve seen it happen for others too. A client of mine came to me at the end of last year feeling completely lost. Her business was floundering, her confidence was shattered, and every decision seemed to pile on more pressure. She told me she felt like she was at rock bottom, stuck in a downward spiral she couldn’t escape.
But that’s the thing about rock bottom—it’s not where the story ends. It’s where the rebuilding starts. Together, we began with small, intentional actions: letting go of her old beliefs about what success should look like, reconnecting with her own strengths through mindfulness, and taking manageable steps to regain control of her life.
By February, she wasn’t just surviving—she was thriving: she made more money in one week than she had made in the whole of the previous 12 months! Her confidence had returned, her mindset had shifted, and her business was flourishing. That transformation wasn’t magic; it was the result of small steps adding up to big change.
So, if you’re feeling like you’ve hit rock bottom after a chaotic 2024, I want you to know that this is not where your story ends. It’s where it begins.
3 Steps to Flip the Script in 2025
Let’s make 2025 the year you rebuild, rise, and take control of your narrative. Here are three small but powerful steps to help you move forward.
1. Bin the Mental Clutter
When you’re at rock bottom, it’s easy to get stuck replaying regrets or holding onto “what ifs.” But those thoughts weigh you down. To rise, you need to lighten the load.
Action Step:
Choose one thought or belief you’re ready to let go of. For my client, it was the belief that she had to be perfect to succeed. That mindset kept her stuck for far too long. Write your thoughts down on a piece of paper. Really feel it as you put it into words. (Feeling the emotion is so important!) Then rip it up, burn it (safely!), or toss it out. Let it go—literally and figuratively.
Why This Works:
Clearing mental clutter creates space for new possibilities. J.K. Rowling once said, “Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.” When you let go of what no longer serves you, you create room to build something new.
2. Reconnect with Yourself Through Mindfulness
When everything feels like it’s falling apart, it’s easy to lose touch with yourself. The world’s chaos drowns out your inner voice, leaving you feeling untethered. Mindfulness can be your anchor.
Action Step:
Take two minutes—just two—to focus on your breathing. Set a timer, close your eyes, and inhale deeply. Feel the air filling your lungs. Exhale slowly, letting tension melt away with your breath. Your mind will wander—that’s normal. When it does, gently guide it back to your breath. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence.
Why This Works:
When my client began practicing mindfulness, she started noticing the patterns of her thoughts—especially the self-doubt and overwhelm that had been holding her back. Mindfulness gave her the clarity to pause, reflect, and choose her next step with intention. There was one critical meditation that I gave her that is still her go-to practice to this day. That practice is called Metta.
3. Say Yes to New Beginnings
The idea of starting fresh can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re picking yourself up after a tough year. But here’s the secret: big changes are built on small wins.
Action Step:
Pick one small action that excites or energises you. It could be as simple as going for a walk, reaching out to a friend, or trying something new. For my client, that small action was reconnecting with an old contact she’d lost touch with—someone who ended up helping her turn her business around. Each small step you take is a brick in the foundation of your comeback story.
Why This Works:
Every step forward builds momentum. Small wins compound over time, helping you rebuild not just your life, but a version of it that’s more aligned with who you truly are.
Rebuilding on Your Own Terms
When I think about my client’s transformation, I’m reminded that hitting rock bottom isn’t the end of the journey—it’s the beginning. It forced her to let go of everything that wasn’t serving her and start rebuilding on her own terms.
You have that same opportunity now. 2025 is your clean slate. You can’t control what’s happening in the world, but you can control how you respond to it. You can rebuild in a way that’s stronger, smarter, and more you.
What’s Next?
If this resonates with you, take the first step today. Start small. Let go of one thing that’s holding you back, breathe deeply, and say yes to one action that moves you forward.
